C166: INFINEON XC16X CAN CONTROLLER FAILS

Information in this article applies to:

  • C166 Version 4.x

QUESTION

I am trying to access the TwinCAN controller on my Infineon XC16x but it does not work. Do you have any suggestions?

ANSWER

Because of a chip problem on some XC161, XC164 and X167 device steppings, access to the TwinCAN controller does not work when the external bus controller (EBC) is enabled and an external bus access with TCONCSx.PHA != 00b precedes the TwinCAN access. This problem is described under 'EBC_X.003' in the Infineon errata sheets.

When the external bus controller (EBC) is enabled, you have to set _PHAx to 0 for every active CS signal in the startup code (START_V2.A66).
