When I try to install the Keil tools onto a Windows 64-bit operating system using a Keil install CD, I receive an error stating that the file version is not compatible with my version of Windows. Can I install the Keil tools on a Windows 64-Bit Operating System?

Yes, you can install the Keil tools on a Windows 64-Bit Operating System. This was corrected in CD Release 05.2010. The Setup utility in installation CD's before Release 05.2010 do not detect 64-Bit Operating Systems, but depending on the release date of your CD, there are simple workarounds.

Check the release date on your CD to determine the correct way to install.

Release 2.2005 to 11.2009 CDs

To install these CDs, open the CD using Windows Explorer. This can be done by opening My Computer, right clicking on the CD drive, and clicking Explore. From here you can install a toolset by running Setup.EXE in the folder of the toolset you want to install. For instance, to install the ARM tools, run ARM\Setup.exe to start the ARM installation process.

Alternatively you can download the latest version from the Keil website by clicking here.

Release 10.2004 and older CDs

Make sure you have your Add-on Diskette files in a folder on your installation drive. If you downloaded them in ZIP file format, extract the files to a folder on your installation drive. If you do not have your Add-on Diskette files, please contact Keil Technical Support with your Serial Number for assistance.

To install these CDs:

  1. Insert the CD, but DO NOT run Setup. Instead, select Open a folder to view files browse to the BIN folder and run the demo32.exe program.
  2. When the DemoShield Player dialog opens, select Keil.dbd then click the Open button.
  3. The Keil Development Tools Release window should display. Select Install Products and Updates, then choose the toolset your want to install.
  4. When you are prompted to insert the Add-on Files Diskette, browse to the folder where you unzipped the installation files, then click OK, then OK again. The installation will continue to completion.
