SWPACK: Mbed project export to MDKv5 fails with Missing device error

Information in this knowledgebase article applies to:

  • MDK-ARM Version 5

QUESTION

using mbed.org, I made a project based on the ST Microelectronics STM32L0 device family. I followed the instructions in the mbed Developer's handbook for Exporting to µVision. When exporting, I receive this error message:

I have cross checked the installation of corresponding device family pack and software pack in pack installer and everything seems proper. What could be the reason behind this ?

ANSWER

Using the mbed website, projects can only be exported to MDK version 3 or MDK version 4. The mbed export feature does not yet support MDK-ARM version 5. The STM32L0 family is supported in MDK-ARM version 5 via a new Device Family Pack. This target is not part of the MDK version 4 device database, so is not in the Legacy Packs. Mbed tried to export to a MDK version 4 style project, but could not find the device in the device database.

RESOLUTION

The project needs to have a valid device from a device database in order to work. To work on such a project, it has to be migrated to MDKv5. -Open µVision version 5. -From the Project pull down menu, select Manage, then Migrate to Version 5 Format. When a dialog pops up, press the OK button. The project now has a *.uvprojx extension. Go to ProjectOptions for Targetdevice tab. Confirm the correct device. This should allow you to work with a project based on STM32L0 device family pack
